Extreme Poker
InterPoker invented Extreme Poker; it is not just playing poker but playing under extreme conditions. These events test your physical and mental limits and they are like combining Fear Factor and Poker.
The first event was the “Deep Water Series of Poker” (DWSOP) and was held in St Kitts in December 2005. Players were eliminated if the ran out of chips, ran out of air or had to surface. Each player had their own scuba gear and the table was set up 10m under water. In this event, Juha Helppi emerged the champion and was crowned the best underwater player in the world.
The second event was held in Finland and was chosen by the winner of the first event. It was played on an Artic Shelf and took place in March 2006. The temperature was -15c to -20c with a -10c wind chill. The rules were very simple; if you are knocked out in the first 30 minutes you could re-buy by giving up your jacket and playing in just your T-Shirt. WSOP Champion Robert Varkonyi took a hard hit and had to rebuy. He kept warm by running around the table as his lips turned blue. The game lasted 1.5 hrs with 4 players wearing just T-Shirts. Robert ended up winning this event.
The third event was in Las Vegas in July 2006. The rule for this event was, if your opponent calls your bluff, you must jump out the airplane at 15,000 feet. Nick Grudzien was the victor of this event having all other competitors pushed out of the plane.
They have had more events since and created an Extreme Poker Hall of Fame for these wild champions. InterPoker allows online qualifiers a chance at these events, so keep your eyes open and your head down because you could be the next Extreme Poker Champion.
